    Ultrasonic Cleaners Used to Clean Military Weapons



    Making sure soldiers’ guns are thoroughly cleaned is important to avoid any rust or a reduction in the gun's performance. Scrubbing their guns with equipment such as oil and brushes are now a thing of the past, and now set to be replaced by ‘deep cleaning’ machines such as Ultrasonic Cleaners.

    Soon, Ultrasonic Cleaning Tanks may be kept on patrol bases so that soldiers won't have to rely on good old fashioned elbow grease when cleaning the dirt off their artillery. Trials are taking place on selected rifles and machine guns, with the Ultrasonic Cleaners possibly being rolled out to 5 regiments if they prove to be a success.

    Sgt Daniel Birks, who will be overseeing the trial, mentioned that this system would give the soldiers more time to focus on the more important aspects of their job and will help them focus more on training, as well as carrying less kit from place to place. “The Armed Forces still clean with oil and

    “I bought the kit about 1 year ago and I installed your 2-axis Myford DRO Kit with the integral cross slide fitting - and I love it. Now I want a kit to fit my Tom Senior E Type miller.” It’s clear to see that our digital readout kits prove to bring many benefits to our customers and on this occasion, that’s exactly what we have found again.

    The install was using our Myford Super 7 Kit (Part Number: DRO-012-L72-MM), our embedded cross slide version. The customer has fitted a cable carrier/chain to keep the encoder cables looking neat.     Allendale Group Taking Part in Children In Need Week



    We'll be taking part and raising money for BBC’s Children In Need this week with some fun (and tasty) activities for our staff to take part in from Monday 11th November through to Friday 15th.

    Some of the activities the Allendale Group staff will be participating in are: Duck Race Sweepstake, Staff Baby Photo Competition and a week-long Bake Sale. Every penny will be donated to Children In Need which will help hundreds of thousands of children across the UK.

    What is a Feeler Gauge used for?



    Feeler Gauges are used to precisely determine the size of small gaps between two objects that are in close proximity and usually consist of several finger-shaped strips of thin metal which vary in thickness (also known as leaves or blades), secured at one end by a pivot pin.

    Metric and imperial versions are available, each individual finger is etched with the thickness of the finger. Multiple thicknesses can be achieved by layering several fingers together to reach the thickness you require. If the gap is larger than the blade, and there is little or no resistance, change to a thicker gauge or add additional blades until the resistance feel is correct.

    Eliminating Backlash on a Milling Machine Quill with a Vertical Linear Digital Scale



    There has been a fantastic article written by one of our customers who purchased the Vertical Linear Digital Scale for his milling machine to eliminate backlash.

    “On my machine, even with the spindle bearings correctly adjusted, there is around a millimetre (40 thou in imperial) of backlash, I assume this slack must be in the rack and pinion, the effect of this is that the quill clamp always needs to be slightly tightened putting additional pressure on the rack and pinion making it harder to move the quill. Failure to clamp the quill can result in a chattering cutter that can drift up and down when machining.
